Transcendent Duck: Colombia

Cameron and Katie are back in Ecua from Colombia, with video and photos promised to follow.

Transcendent Duck: Colombia: "hank you Colombia, you treated us right. From fresh food and juices, to white sand beaches, warm and open people, who although they spoke twice as fast as Ecuadorian, still conveyed, 'You are welcome here"

Luna tells all.: La biblioteca

Katie has started up a kids library in Ecuador:
Luna tells all.: La biblioteca: "I found a book of Mexican nursery rhymes yesterday, and between the two of us, we knew the tune to about three of them. We sang them over and over, and eventually the king of the wild boys caught on to the tune of 'Chocolate' and created a little dance routine for us complete with vogueing and reggaton style hip gyrating. It was too much. "

Straight to Jesus

Yanya's book is out in June:
Straight to Jesus: "Erzen is sensitive, savvy, and provocative. Her mastery of historical sources, ethnographic technique, and accessible writing style are evident throughout. She illuminates aspects of conservative Christianity central to the 'culture wars,' deepening our understanding of the movement's internal struggles over sexuality, gender, and family issues. Erzen has written a wonderful book.'"

Luna tells all.: Seven wild pigs and a baby

the latest from katie, this time from la selva

Luna tells all.: Seven wild pigs and a baby: "That first day I felt so strange and different and voyeuristic- watching them clean the pigs in the river, feeding the entrails to the pyrannah, letting their kids play with the stretchy skin of the intestines and the little pig fetuses that came out of a pregnant sow. I couldnt imagine connection emerging between our different worlds and languages, but it did, miraculously it did."

Hey folks, I know you have all been dying to know so
here it is:

My parasite has a first name, it's
B-L-A-S-T-O-C-Y-S-T-I-S
My parasite has a last name, it's H-O-M-I-N-I-S

Oh we like to hang out every day but the fun is coming
to an end and the reason why I'll
say......................

Cause Flagil really has a way with killing parasites
in my gut starting TODAY!!!

Yes, it's true, the diagnosis is in and I did in fact
have a parasite! I start taking Flagil in a few hours
and our time together will be over.

Kisses to you all!
Love,
Sarah

My friend Carla, the refugee in Florida

Carla and her husband and baby couldnt make the wedding due to their move from SF to the Miami area. Her report on her first month there (I guess Other means Ecuadorian):

Just a little taste of our culture shock...
>
>ONLY IN FLORIDA...
>
>1. We drove 6 miles to the nearest Mexican restaurant.
>
>2. The waitress at the Mexican restaurant was Dominican (the cooks were
>Mexican!!!).
>
>3. The rice and beans were outside the burrito.
>
>4. The horchata was made from quaker oats instead of rice.
>
>5. We went to a Wal-mart asked for something in English and the employee
>did not speak English.
>
>6. You go to a store and EVERYBODY speaks Spanish (even the White people
>..and they're not Cuban).
>
>7. 98% of the radio stations play merengue, salsa, bachata o regueaton
>(we're not complaining about that!!!).
>
>8. You see signs at stores that read "SE HABLA INGLES"...as soon as I take
>a picture of one I'll send it.
>
>9. If rice and "habichuelas- dominican style beans" are not part of your
>daily diet...you're not in Florida.
>
>10. You're either Cuban, Dominican, Haitian, Puerto Rican Colombian or
>Other.
>
>THE MOST SHOCKING THING....YOU SEE GW'04 SIGNS EVERYWHERE!!!!

Things we didn't do in wedding preparation...

:: CHICAGO DANCE ::
I just learned of this place, which offers wedding prep dance classes, "ncluding "'First Dance' choreography." It was one of the things that slipped from the list. Still, we managed OK-- especially when the Dr. Dre song slipped in by accident.
