Boda Introduction, Betty Fry

As part of our effort to introduce you to each other before your arrival in Quito, please meet Betty Fry.
We met Betty in the course of our work with San Diego Friends of Cuba, with whom Betty has been hostess, organizer, leader, counselor, chef, artist and general source of strength and tranquility. She's a native Ohioan and was for many years a grammar school art teacher. Her travels have been extensive-- you can ask her to compare present-day Qutio with the city she saw on her last visit, circa 1960. Last month, I mentioned to her in passing our planned trip to southern Italy for our friends' wedding. She knew Puglia from a trip in the 60s I believe, and urged us to visit the trullis, the houses distinctive to the region. I, of course, had not idea.
Betty has extended her home as a refuge for many. In the summer of 1998, when Andrea and I were going through a rough patch, I spent many hours reading in her hammock, frolicking in her pool, and eating her muffins.
