Friends, Here is a site with some nice photos and an OK history of Quito.
Please note, the elevation is 9200 feet in Quito. We humbly advise holding back from running steps and drinking for the first day or so after you arrive. I'll post some advice on dealing with elevation shortly. You can get prescription pills to help you.
